FINFINE IS THE CENTRAL AND INTEGRAL PART OF OROMIA

Aasxaa ABO-8.25.13May 10, 2014 (Oromo Liberation Front) — The authoritarian regime of TPLF-EPRDF in Ethiopia has continued reversing some rights achieved by the Oromo people’s struggle. Even the regime is continuing violating the rights enshrined in its own constitution of the country that has been worked out by its own experts. The wicked Master Plan of Addis Ababa that was declared recently by the incumbent regime is unfolding the continuation of dismembering Oromia state that has been underway since the last two decades. Beginning from 1991, TPLF’s strategic policy of eviction and displacement of Oromo from their ancestral land is unabated. Despite deafening propaganda and denials of the Integrated Master Plan’s infringing of the borders of Special Zones around Finfinne (Addis Ababa), the said Zones are already under Finfinne Administration practically. Read more…

Killings in Ethiopia outrage Minnesota’s Oromo community

May 9, 2014 (MinnPost) — Members of Minnesota’s Oromo community plan to rally Friday in St. Paul and are calling for a hunger strike to mourn the deaths of student demonstrators gunned down last week by Ethiopian security forces in Addis Ababa.
Oromo students and others in Ethiopia have been protesting since April 26 a plan to develop the capital Addis Ababa, saying the proposal will displace farmers in the city outskirts, erase significant landmarks and dismantle the rich culture and identity of the ethnic Oromo people. Because the Oromia region surrounds Addis Ababa, an expansion of the city will mean a further blow to the region and its people, who have been marginalized for decades, they say.
Addis Ababa city officials argue the plan will develop and improve the city — one of the fastest growing cities in Africa — and its surrounding suburbs. Read more…

Ethiopia: UN Review Should Condemn Media Crackdown

Activists, Journalists Persecuted Under Draconian Laws
hrwMay 5, 2014, Geneva(HR) – United Nations member countries should call on Ethiopia to stop targeting activists and the media under draconian laws. The UN Human Rights Council will review Ethiopia’s human rights record under the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) procedure on May 6, 2014.
A Human Rights Watch submission to the UN on Ethiopia highlights its ongoing suppression of the media and nongovernmental organizations, and the lack of accountability for torture and other serious abuses by its security forces. The arbitrary arrest of nine bloggers and journalists on April 25 and 26, just 10 days before the review, reflects Ethiopia’s blatant disregard for fundamental rights and should be strongly condemned by UN members. Read more…
